K-Gr 3-Read by the author, Mary Pope Osborne, this collection includes four book: Night of the Ninjas, Afternoon on the Amazon, Sunset of the Sabertooth, and Midnight on the Moon (all Random House). The stories flow easily, each one picking up where the prior one left off. Osborne does a good job of summarizing both at the beginning of each book and within the story where necessary. The collection begins with Jack and Annie following clues to find Morgan, their missing magical librarian friend, as the tree house takes them to ancient Japan, the Amazon rainforest, the Ice Age, and finally into the future and onto the moon. Librarians will love this series for its emphasis on books and reading as the keys to solving mysteries and discovering adventures. The dialogue doesn't necessarily lend itself well to audiobook format due to the repetition of "said Jack" and "said Annie," which becomes glaringly obvious when spoken aloud. Osborne's narration is adequate, but her attempts at kid-like voices, particularly Annie's, err a little bit on the side of cute. Nevertheless, young fans of the series aren't likely to mind, and the wide listening level makes this a good choice for audiobook collections.

Incomplete Sentences in the Book

I am not sure what happened to the editing/checking of this book before printing it but my copies have horrible sentences in them - incomplete sentences. There are many in each chapter - just half sentences on the page.

Son loves these books!

I must review for my son, since I bought these for him. He really loves the Mary Pope Osborne Magic Tree House books. He has struggled for aver a year with reading, and these books have helped tremendously with that. We have set a time before bed, and he reads for 30 minutes. He can't wait now to go to bed to read some more of these books! Also, his school is starting to read these so now he has a little advantage because he has already read them, and wants to read them again! I am so glad I bought these books for him.

Amazing stories, great fun and great learning.

These books are amazing. They offer a perspective of regions and culture from around the world. My five year old lives for these books! We read them every night before bed and she begs me to read just one more chapter each time. The adventures of Jack and Annie and the Magic Tree House bring us ancient times through time travel giving children the opportunity to learn about Greek pyramids, Rain forests, the aquatic life and much more with a fun spin to it. I HIGHLY recommend these books. They are great fun and great learning.
