"Black Firsts is a book full of hope."— Chicago Sun-Times

"A superb historical study of black achievement."— Houston Chronicle

"An exhaustive listing of the accomplishments of black Americans in the arts, business, education, the military, medicine and science, and sports."— Pittsburgh Tribune-Review

"This authoritative work, with its brief biographies of many accomplished and famous African-Americans, is one that writers, researchers, and libraries will want to keep close at hand for its valuable information."— Richmond Times-Dispatch

"This is a must-have reference."— St. Paul Pioneer Press

Great book to track history
By CJ
I purchased this book two years ago and it was well written and full of historical information. The advantage was having one source to obtain information on historical figures. When I saw the updated version i did not hesitate to purchase it. This is a must have for any library. The author is very detailed and writes easy read books.

I like the idea of the book
By M. W. George
I like the idea of the book; but, I have found some information that needs to be corrected when you do an edit on it. Jack Gibson was not the first Black Program Director when he was at WERD, he was the Announcer that opened the mike and said, "Hello Atlanta, we are here and we ain't going no where!" My Uncle, Ken Knight was the Program Director; also, the National Association of Radio Announcers was founded by the 13 Original DJs of Black Radio and Jack Gibson and my Uncle, Ken Knight were two of the Original 13. If you go to the page for the owner of the station from the National Radio Hall of Fame page, you will see this information.
Thanks... M.W. George, Author of Black Radio... Winner Takes All! America's 1st Black DJs
